Slow economy puts paper suppliers in a bind

Production cuts in U.S. have companies looking to foreign markets

Suppliers to Wisconsin paper producers are adjusting course amid forecasts of a slowdown in U.S. paper production, a move that includes looking to foreign markets for future growth.

The American Forest & Paper Association released its annual report on U.S. paper production capacity Wednesday, which showed capacity shrank this year for the first time in more than 20 years of surveys. The trade group projected an anemic 0.4% annual growth rate for the next three years, a sliver of the historical average of 2.5%.
