School testing laptops in classes
Portable computers could replace labs

Waukesha -- A pilot project that pits portable laptop computers
against a traditional computer lab at Prairie Elementary School could
help school district leaders decide the future of technology in their
district.
Starting this month and continuing into mid-January, students in
two classrooms at Prairie are using wireless laptops to take quizzes,
send messages, do research and even play games. Their experiences
with those computers could determine whether the School Board decides
to replace outdated computers in existing labs or buy laptops on
carts ...
