PHOENIX -- He stands there along the right-field line remembering
who he was as much as who he is, "the same Barry Zito," signing the
autographs treasured by fans the way he treasured them when he was a
fan, and a kid.
Back to reality? "I never left," said Zito. The Cy Young Award of
'02 has brought accolades and media requests, and of course ragging
from teammates, but it hasn't brought Zito to a position of self-
importance.
"Sometimes," said Zito, "I have to step outside myself and realize
that for the most part I just feel like me, which is what I've always
felt. Everything around is changing, but I see the same guy in the
mirror every morning. I don't think of myself being any ...
