Article: San Leandro Museum gets ready

SAN LEANDRO -- Organizers of the city's new museum project are on a treasure hunt to find old artifacts, trinkets and other memorabilia that will help tell San Leandro's story.

The city is in the process of constructing the new San Leandro Museum of History at 320/324 W. Estudillo Ave. in downtown. City officials hope residents will be able to visit it by this fall.

Cindy Simons, a senior librarian at the San Leandro Main Library, said the library staff currently is working on exhibits that will illustrate key events in San Leandro's past.

The exhibits will feature the following: the Ohlones, the ranchos of the Peraltas and Estudillos, the 49ers who found their "gold" in a San Leandro ...
