University of California regents have yet to approve a systemwide tuition increase, but already summer sessions students will be asked to pay more.

University President Richard Atkinson has directed campuses to raise fees for the summer session classes, some of which begin this month, in anticipation of a tuition increase that will be voted on in coming weeks.

At UC Berkeley, undergraduates attending summer sessions will pay an additional $160; graduate students will pay an additional $182. The first UC Berkeley summer session begins Tuesday.
