OAKLAND -- It was Sunday morning, Aug. 3.
The cheers, the applause and the scent of garlic fries were hours
off.
In Section K of the Oakland Coliseum parking lot, Oakland A's
Booster Club members sat on folding chairs under an overcast sky,
polished off their brunch, and tackled a popular topic:
Who's your favorite player?
An easy question for Hayward's Don Bessey, who likes the hustle of
the A's Barry Zito.
The two men also have lots in common.
Zito now is a starting pitcher with the A's, and Bessey was a
pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies and Milwaukee Braves in the
early 1960s. Bessey, like Zito, practices yoga and meditation.
