OAKLAND -- Oh, this savory playoff series will be dripping with
irony like honey from Pooh Bear's pot. The A's are going to play
Boston in the opening round of the playoffs in what the A's could
call their six degrees of separation with the Red Sox.
After all, A's general manager Billy Beane almost became Boston's
general manager this year until he got cold feet. A's manager Ken
Macha might have been the Red Sox manager had Beane last year not
blocked Boston's bid to interview him before hiring Grady Little.
Boston was the axis of upheaval for the A's stretch run at winning
