SAN JOSE -- As midseason report cards get handed out, Nils Ekman's
can be held up in front of the class as the symbol of success for the
first-place San Jose Sharks.
The 27-year-old left wing from Stockholm, Sweden, is an example of
what the San Jose management preached throughout the preseason and
carried over into the team becoming one of the biggest surprises in
the NHL, leading the Pacific Division after 42 games with a 17-10-11-
4 record (49 points).
San Jose was the land of opportunity this August, with the Sharks
offering an opportunity and playing time to every player invited to
camp no matter their experience or contract.
