SAN JOSE -- It was a lackluster effort at best, and if the Sharks hope to maintain their five-point lead in the Pacific Division, they had better hope it is not the start of a trend.

San Jose had earned a point in 10 of its last 11 games entering its 3-0 loss to the Dallas Stars on Tuesday, but that streak came against a mix of bottom feeders and playoff contenders.

Tuesday's game started a stretch of six games that will tell a lot about where the Sharks (18-11-11-4) stand among the league's elite.
