Article: Who are these guys? A guide to this year's Noise Pop

THERE wasn't much "noise" made about the inaugural Noise Pop festival. The first affair, half-jokingly described by festival- founder Kevin Arnold as "a one-night ordeal," began as a simple concert featuring like-minded local bands at San Francisco's old Kennel Club in 1993.

Selected by Arnold, who had recently graduated from U.C. Berkeley with a degree in architecture, the seemingly diverse acts all shared a common love for mixing crunchy, distorted guitars with catchy, radio-friendly melodies.
