Robert C. "Bob" Gattis, an Oakland restaurateur known for his
generosity and his big love for Cal, died of a heart attack at his
Orinda home Friday. He was 55.
Gattis owned Crogan's, a Montclair District restaurant with walls
covered in photos of UC Berkeley sports heroes.
"Cal was everything to him," said Tom Rinehart, a Crogan's
bartender.
Gattis played rugby at UC Berkeley, and his loyalty to the
university grew even stronger as an alumnus. He was a Cal athletics
donor and a director of the Cal-oriented San Francisco Grid Club. And
"Bear Talk," a Cal men's basketball postgame show, was broadcast from
Crogan's.
