SAN FRANCISCO -- In less than three hours Monday night, the San
Francisco Giants demonstrated why they've struggled in one-run games
this season.
At the same time, they showed why that trend doesn't necessarily
have to be a long-term thing.
Getting near-perfect pitching from a bullpen that saved game after
game last season, the Giants overcame a number of mental and physical
failures to produce a 3-2 victory over the Atlanta Braves at SBC
Park.
Jim Brower, Jason Christiansen, Felix Rodriguez and Matt Herges
preserved a win for Jason Schmidt with four shutout innings of relief
as the Giants, despite having a baserunner gunned down at the plate
and stranding four others in scoring position, ...
