OAKLAND -- The A's shuffled the deck, spread out the cards and
picked themselves another extra-inning hero Thursday night.
Jermaine Dye hit a sacrifice fly that scored Eric Byrnes without a
play, and the A's worked overtime again before emerging with a 2-1
victory over the Toronto Blue Jays in 11 innings.
Byrnes reached on a bloop double off Toronto's Terry Adams, took
third on Scott Hatteberg's groundout and scored to extend an eight-
game home winning streak. The last five of those home wins have been
decided in extra innings.
"Are you asking if that's what I prefer?" A's manager Ken Macha
said with incredulity. "We've played tight games all year. It wears
