SAN FRANCISCO -- Questions have been asked. Numbers have been
crunched. Theories have been formulated.
Still, no one seems to know why the San Francisco Giants keep
hitting into double play after double play.
"Any ideas, anybody?" Giants manager Felipe Alou asked
rhetorically after Saturday's 6-4 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates at
SBC Park.
Marquis Grissom was front and center in the Giants' latest double
play, rolling into a game-ending 6-4-3 twin killing with the bases
loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning, much to the dismay of the
41,042 fans.
Grissom hit into two double plays in Friday's 4-2 loss, and San
Francisco, which has lost three straight, has hit into a major league- ...
