IT'S ALWAYS fun when a surprise team emerges and changes the
dynamics in a division race. Two surprise teams can make for an epic
stretch run.But three?
The NL Central is full of surprises. In baseball's only six-team
division, just four games separated first place from last place
entering the weekend.
While the Cubs and Astros have dealt with the loss of key
personnel (Sammy Sosa, Kerry Wood, Mark Prior and Andy Pettitte among
them), the Brewers, Pirates and Reds have shown resolve and talent by
hanging tough over the first two months.
Baseball's biggest surprises all seem to be coming out of this
division: Paul Wilson for the Reds, Lyle Overbay for the Brewers, Rob
Mackowiac, Craig ...
