OAKLAND -- Erick Dampier is expected to inform the Golden State
Warriors today of his intention to opt out of the final two years of
his contract.
Fittingly, the announcement will occur on the same day of the
Charlotte Bobcats' expansion draft.
The two events definitely are connected.
Dampier, one of the top centers in the NBA last season when he
averaged 12.3 points and 12.0 rebounds, is scheduled to make $8.1
million and $8.7 million in the final two years of a $48 million deal
he signed five years ago.
But that contract, negotiated by Bus Cook, gave Dampier the right
to void the final two years and become an unrestricted free agent,
and the 29-year-old went agent shopping in April ...
