A surprise inspection by a national hospital accreditation group
at the Alameda County Medical Center last month has resulted in two
deficiencies related to new operating room procedures and medical
records.
On July 23, the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care
Organizations, or JCAHO, paid an unannounced visit to the medical
center, including Highland Hospital in Oakland.
The inspection was prompted by a complaint about medical center
leadership issues to JCAHO's Office of Quality Monitoring on July 19,
said JCAHO spokesman Mark Forstneger.
As a result of the inspection, the medical center was cited for
not complying with a new JCAHO surgery requirement that began July 1.
