Article: Dry beans scattered at Tracy's annual festival Rides, fried food and life-sized jumping beans highlight 18th year of event

TRACY -- Visitors to the California Dry Bean Festival couldn't find a whole lot in the way of beans, but they did find a little magic nonetheless.

The hot, sunny day brought a packed crowd to Central Avenue in downtown Tracy, where people listened to music, took their kids on rides, met life-size Pepe the Mexican Jumping Bean, digested plenty of fried food and beer -- and yes, even got some free dry beans.

"Every year there's something new that goes on," said Maria Valenzuela, event assistant with the Tracy Chamber of Commerce.

This year the 18th annual free festival boasts more arts and crafts booths, a wider variety of food and a larger kids' area, she said.
