LET'S FACE IT, we can't make the grade as investors without the
stock market. In fact, Fidelity Investments writes in a new
retirement planning guide that stock allocations of less than 50
percent in a portfolio have historically led to lower success.
Today, I'm taking a microscopic look at the stock market,
answering some of the basic questions of those still sitting on the
outside peering in and wondering why their portfolio is not
generating a decent return.
Why get into the stock market at all? Because over the past 75
years, the stock market has provided a better return than any other
investment with the exception of physical real estate, which requires
