PHOENIX -- Eight players asked Felipe Alou for permission to fly
to Arizona directly after Sunday's 16-0 debacle of a loss at Oakland,
and the Giants manager granted each request.
"I guess they didn't want to stay near where the disaster took
place," the manager said with a wry grin.
The Giants put more mental distance between themselves and the
worst shutout loss in franchise history Tuesday night, piling on six
runs in the ninth inning to beat Arizona 11-3 at Bank One Ballpark.
Jason Schmidt watched his kids run around the yard of his home in
nearby Paradise Valley, slept in his own bed and then won his third
straight start, holding Arizona to three runs in six innings.
