SAN RAMON -- In a perfect world, the clear and sunny skies early
Friday would have remained and allowed Amador Valley High and
California to finish their East Bay Athletic League baseball
showdown.
Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate. Citing safety
concerns, the two-man umpire crew suspended the game with the Dons
holding a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the third inning.
The game withstood a 45-minute rain delay in the bottom of the
second, but the mound was a mess after a second wave of rain riddled
the field. During the first delay, Cal poured more than 50 pounds of
cat litter on the mound, but it didn't do much good.
