OAKLAND -- A pot left unattended on a stove may have caused a
small house fire Monday in East Oakland, authorities said.
The owner of the house in the 9300 block of Lawlor Street was not
home when neighbors noticed smoke coming from a window about 4:57
p.m., authorities said.
She still had not returned more than an hour later, long after
firefighters had doused the fire, containing the brunt of damage to
the kitchen. They also pulled her cat from the smoke-filled house,
