ONCE UPON A time, a wine accessory meant a cork. A simple, pulled-
from-the-bottle cork that, perhaps, if the wine puller were on the
more creative side, bore a special inscription inked in ballpoint pen
to commemorate the date the wine was drunk.
Oh my, how times have changed.
Today, the wine accessory industry is a market all its own, one
that sprang out of the success of the wine industry and the increase
in the number of wine drinkers.
It's not just a Bay Area thing, either. With the retail value of
California wine being shipped to the United States totaling $15
billion and total U.S. consumption of wine having grown 63 percent
