HOLLISTER -- In the loneliness of her garage gymnasium, and living
a spartan existence, Kelsey Jeffries flashes her fists and fulfills
her dream as the poster child of the Bay Area's only thriving boxing
town.
That would be San Jose, and Jeffries is its most visible fistic
presence. Yes, a woman fighter is the most recognizable ring figure
at "Fight Night at the Tank."
San Jose's next fight show at HP Pavilion is Thursday. Jeffries, a
29-year-old junior featherweight world champion will be making her
eighth appearance at "the tank," more than any other fighter.
Boxing doesn't work as well in Oakland and San Francisco, where
world title fights occurred in the distant past. But boxing works ...
