Dame Kiri and Friends: The Gala Concert (EMI Classic DVD)
The proceeds from the DVD of this 2004 Auckland concert go to the
Kiri Te Kanawa Foundation to help talented singers and musicians from
New Zealand with career and financial support, just as the Kiwi
soprano was herself helped years ago to a glorious international
career.
I will not tell a lie; I love Dame Kiri because she is an honest
singer. At 60, she is starting to show her age in closeups, but she
can still float a high note. She may run out of steam in "Depuis le
jour," but who is counting?
The guests -- except for the ensemble from The Opera Factory, a
handsome mixture of races with enthusiasm and class -- aren't as ...
