Article: Vocalist calls on spiritual roots

UNION CITY -- Jumoke Hill grew up singing gospel tunes with his mother, Gloria, at Palma Ceia Baptist Church in Hayward.

Tonight, the 21-year-old Union City man will return to his spiritual roots when he performs a Christmas-themed concert at Paddy's Cafe.

For Hill, who leads open mic nights twice a month at the cafe in western Union City, singing isn't just an aspiration, it's practically a form of therapy.

"Anytime I have an outlet to sing, it's a good thing," he said. "I just like entertaining."
