OAKLAND -- At a fund-raiser packed with some of the state's most
powerful politicians, Oakland City Council President Ignacio De La
Fuente said Tuesday that education would be his top priority if he is
elected mayor.
The main attraction at the lunchtime event at the Waterfront Hotel
in Jack London Square was Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, who
reaffirmed his endorsement of De La Fuente.
"Ignacio De La Fuente is a man who has demonstrated his commitment
to the city of Oakland," Villaraigosa said, adding that his tenure on
the council is a more than adequate "apprenticeship" for becoming
mayor.
