HAYWARD -- Balking at suggestions he is too old to run again,
Councilman Matt Jimenez said on Wednesday that he will seek a seventh
term on the City Council.
The 83-year-old former fire chief unveiled his candidacy at the
firefighter union hall, announcing a concise two-issue platform
before yielding to the effusive praise of a crowd of about 30
supporters.
Jimenez pledged to do his best to halt the city's plan to build a
loop of one-way streets through downtown.
"That's going to hurt the downtown merchants," said Jimenez.
