Article: Team of scientists sheds light on dark matter

A team of scientists has found evidence of the mysterious stuff that makes up around 20 percent of the universe by watching galaxies collide 3 billion light years away.

"This is the final, definitive proof that it has to be there," said astronomer Douglas Clowe of the University of Arizona.

Astronomers had predicted the existence of dark matter because all the ordinary visible matter -- such as stars and planets -- doesn't have enough gravitational pull to keep galaxies from spinning apart.
