Article: San Leandro shuts down Tech in opener

SAN LEANDRO -- The San Leandro High football team got all it wanted from pesky Oakland Tech in a 16-0 non-league win over Bulldogs Friday night at Burrell Field.

The Pirates' defense stifled Tech, limiting the Bulldogs to 66 total yards of offense while collecting on four sacks.

San Leandro's Glenn Pettis ran for 102 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries to lead the inconsistent Pirates' offense.

"I thought our defense played a great game tonight, considering they are a young squad," Oakland Tech coach Delton Edwards said.

San Leandro had a golden opportunity to score late in the first half of a scoreless tie.
