OAKLAND -- Pitch counts don't seem to matter. Left vs. right matchups aren't much of a factor either.

When Barry Zito is pitching, the game is close, and the A's ace says he's fine, he's going to win or lose the game on his own.

That's the respect Zito has earned, that's the way he wants it, and that's the way it was Sunday afternoon in the ninth inning of a 1- 1 game at the Coliseum.

Zito's defense put him in a hole, a hanging curveball put him on the edge, a couple walls and a sacrifice fly proved Zito's demise in a 3-1 loss that completed a three-game sweep for the Arizona Diamondbacks and made Zito's All-Star selection earlier in the day a bittersweet accomplishment.
