SAN FRANCISCO -- The Giants began their season with guarded
optimism and Barry Bonds in a woman's wig.
It ended up a drag, all right.
A veteran team that never really came together found itself
exchanging goodbyes after a 4-3 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers on
Sunday.
The Giants general manager Brian Sabean will hold a 1 p.m. news
conference today, at which time the club is expected to announce that
manager Felipe Alou will not be retained.
After the game, Alou boarded a red-eye back to his Florida home,
where his immediate plans are to buy a puppy and remove the storm
shutters from his windows.
"The storms never showed up this year," the 71-year-old manager
said.
