The George Washington men's basketball team finished its
regular season yesterday with a 71-57 victory over Dayton, lifting
its record to 14-12 (8-8 in the Atlantic 10 Conference). That's good
enough for second place in the Atlantic 10 West Division and a
first-round bye in next week's conference tournament. It also is
probably good enough for a National Invitation Tournament bid. But
it won't get the Colonials into the NCAA tournament.
To get to the NCAA, the Colonials will have to win the
Atlantic 10 tournament, in which they will begin play Thursday night
in Philadelphia against the winner of a first-round game Wednesday
night between La Salle and Massachusetts.
