AMERICAN FORK -- A booming youth population may force American Fork to pull the welcome mat from neighboring cities as officials try to ensure a place in city recreation programs for its own residents.

"The (recreation) programs are getting so large with so many kids involved in them that facilities space is getting scarcer and scarcer," said Carl Wanlass, American Fork city administrator. "In the future we might have to limit participation until other alternatives could be found."

Highland, Cedar Hills and Alpine cities contract with American Fork in an agreement that allows their children to participate in American Fork recreation programs.
