Article: U. becomes Libya at Model Arab League meet

If Deborah Dilley became a little overbearing and bombastic, it was all part of the plan.

After all, the University of Utah student was representing Libya at the recent Model Arab League competition in Washington, D.C., and everyone knows Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi has a reputation for being difficult.

"We got very much into character," said Dilley, president of the local Arab League chapter. "We all wanted to be like Gadhafi. He's a leader with crazy ideas."

The U.'s Middle East Center sponsors the local Model Arab League group. The university's students join others from colleges and universities all over the country in studying Middle East issues.
