By Sunday morning, the heartbreak Stone Bridge's football players
endured less than 24 hours earlier had begun to fade. The
disappointment of a 15-8 loss to Hampton in the state title game was
no longer what mattered most.
Players instead were allowing themselves to appreciate the
significance of their accomplishments this season. In their first
year in Class AAA, the Bulldogs finished as Liberty District and
Northern Region champions. They made their first appearance in a
state title game, losing to a storied Hampton team that earned its
state-record 17th championship. Stone Bridge's two losses this season
came against the two AAA state champions -- Hampton in Division 5
