Texas Instruments Inc. won its first order from Samsung
Electronics Co. for a chip that runs cameras and video players in
mobile phones, after Chief Executive Rich Templeton flew to Korea to
help close the deal.
The agreement is the culmination of Templeton's two-year pursuit
of Samsung, and he is attempting to parlay it into orders for
products including the company's main modem chip. Samsung, the
fastest growing of the world's top three cell-phone makers, has
mainly used chips from competitors such as Qualcomm Inc.
"Templeton took the lead to engage with Samsung," Terry Cheng,
president of Texas Instruments' Asian operations, said last week in
