Natural gas from traditional North American basins will not be
enough to meet escalating demand in coming years, according to an
official of BP Energy Co., the largest producer of natural gas in
North America.
Bob Williams, director of origination for the Western region, said
natural gas-fired power plants are the main reason for increasing
demand. But he does not foresee a natural gas shortage. Rather, new
sources of natural gas likely will come from the proposed Alaskan
pipeline and liquefied natural gas imports.
"Something will have to happen fundamentally to get the gas to
market," Williams said Tuesday at the Utah Association of Energy
