As the bouncy sitcom-theme music blares, the front door
to a suburban split-level swings open to reveal a tall, thin man in
a dark suit.
Striding purposefully into the room, Rob Petrie reaches out to
embrace his waiting wife, Laura, but she gently turns aside his
welcome-home kiss with a gesture that seems to say, "Not now -- we
have company." In a single graceful motion, Rob turns, straightens
his tie and takes a step into the sunken living room.
But with his attention on his guests, Rob has failed to notice
the ottoman in his path. Suddenly he trips, somersaulting
flamboyantly onto his back to the rim-shot accompaniment of the TV
soundtrack.
