They're custodians of the game, keepers of courses, part engineer,
a little bit artist with a solid background in agronomy, the science
of soil and plant life.
These are golf course superintendents, and without them we'd be
playing in weeds in pastures while dodging sagebrush and rocks.
They're the supervisors behind the labor force that cares for golf
courses, a highly sophisticated business that involves everything
from chemicals to blends of seeds and complicated irrigation systems.
And money.
Their golf role was made famous in a humorous vein by Bill Murray
in the movie classic "Caddyshack." But it's not all fun and games
going after the groundhogs.
