Here are the rules for making our new favorite Desperation summer
dessert: Do not cook, throw it together in a jiffy, substitute
ingredients at will, eat and enjoy!
Our newest favorite summer dessert could be called "Create Your
Own Parfait" -- and it's really more method than recipe. Basically
you assemble three or four layers in individual dessert dishes: Put
cookie crumbs on the bottom, add fruit (or something sweet), pour on
something creamy (like whipped cream), top with more fruit, and
serve.
When we ran across tips for creating your own parfait in "Icebox
Desserts" (Harvard Common Press), we decided to check with author
Lauren Chattman to see if this really is as mindless as it sounds.
