Article: Drug-induced slumber worrisome

Each night, a growing number of Americans drift off with the help of prescription sleep aids.

According to the New York Times, some 42 million sleeping-pill prescriptions were filled during the last year, up nearly 60 percent from 2000. No one knows the long-term effect of prescription sleep aids. Perhaps more troubling is that some experts believe that health- care providers who are quick to write prescriptions for sleep aids may be ignoring other conditions such as depression.
