PROVO -- Officials are trying to change Utah Lake's image by reintroducing Utahns to the state's largest freshwater lake.

Fishing and boating on the lake and biking along its shores will be among the recreational activities highlighted Saturday during the inaugural Utah Lake Festival at Utah Lake State Park, 4400 W. Center, Provo.

As part of the celebration, Utah County commissioners on Tuesday signed a resolution proclaiming Saturday as Utah Lake Appreciation Day.

The festival is being organized and sponsored by the June Sucker Recovery Implementation Program, a multiagency cooperative to improve the lake's ecosystem.
