The Boston Red Sox placed RHP Josh Beckett on the disabled list
and recalled RHP Devern Hansack from Class AAA Pawtucket in time for
him to start the second game of a day-night doubleheader yesterday
against the Braves.
The Red Sox also sent LHP Jon Lester, cancer-free since December
after undergoing chemotherapy to treat lymphoma, to Pawtucket for
his second rehabilitation assignment of the season.
Beckett, the majors' winningest pitcher at 7-0, has a torn flap
of skin on the middle finger of his throwing hand. He went on the 15-
day disabled list retroactive to Monday, and is expected to return
in time to pitch against the Indians in Boston on May 29.
