A judge today gave activist Al Sharpton and his attorneys
more time to review paper ballots in Sharpton's effort to force a
runoff for the city's Democratic mayoral nomination.
Sharpton has been waging a battle in court since the Board of
Elections issued a final count showing that he lost, and Manhattan
Borough President Ruth Messinger won, the Sept. 9 Democratic
primary.
The Democratic nominee faces incumbent Republican Mayor
Rudolph W. Giuliani in the November general election.
A full-scale hearing in Sharpton's case was scheduled for
Wednesday after Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Beatrice Shainswit
ordered Sharpton's lawyers to complete their work in the five Board
