Article: Osage County farms hit; Lawrence suffers damage 7 tornadoes form across state; few injuries reported

Tornadoes damaged homes and apartments in southwest Lawrence and cut a trail through Osage County on Thursday night while straight winds may have been responsible for derailing a train farther southwest in Chase County.

No deaths were reported, but about six people suffered injuries during the storms and in the aftermath.

Tornado activity skipped around Topeka and Shawnee County, but Joy Moser, a spokeswoman for the Kansas Division of Emergency management, said 15 counties had confirmed tornado sightings.

National Weather Service meteorologist Mike Akulow said an initial assessment showed there were at least seven tornadoes active across the state Thursday night.
