From staff and wire reports
Tornadoes damaged homes and apartments in southwest Lawrence and
cut a trail through Osage County on Thursday night while straight
winds may have been responsible for derailing a train farther
southwest in Chase County.
No deaths were reported, but about six people suffered injuries
during the storms and in the aftermath.

Moser, a spokeswoman for the Kansas Division of Emergency management,
said 15 counties had confirmed tornado sightings.
National Weather Service meteorologist Mike Akulow said an initial
assessment showed there were at least seven tornadoes active across
the state Thursday night.
