Some say Americans have forgotten the meaning of Memorial Day. They say the holiday that unofficially ushers in the summer season, is a day devoted to having fun rather than remembering the war dead. Meanwhile, businesses use it for commercial promotion.

This year, with our troops still in Iraq and Afghanistan, should bring back the true meaning of the holiday, which President Bush's Memorial Day proclamation does so eloquently:
