Article: Topekan to seek salvage yard approval with new council

Jerry Penner, still wanting to develop an auto salvage yard at 417 S.E. 13th, is hoping the new Topeka City Council will be more receptive than the old one.

In March, the council rejected Penner's application on a 2-6 vote. Only Councilmen Harold Lane and John Alcala voted in favor of the salvage yard.

On April 1, Councilwomen Betty Dunn and Vanessa Hill were defeated in the city election and have been replaced by John Nave and Jeff Preisner, respectively. Dunn and Hill had voted for rejection of the salvage yard.

Councilwoman Lisa Stubbs was absent the night of the vote.

At Penner's request, Mayor Butch Felker put the matter back on the agenda for this week. ...
