When the subject of severe weather comes up, most of us think of
tornadoes, hail or floods. But with the first blast of wintry weather
on Kansans' doorsteps, it's time for a reality check.
Winter weather in Kansas can be just as dangerous, just as deadly,
and just as severe as anything we see in the spring or summer.
True, winter weather isn't as dramatic. Blowing snowflakes have an
innocence about them which is nonexistent in any tornado. But powdery
soft snowflakes easily add up, and when they get deep upon the
ground, we are guaranteed problems running the gamut from minor
traffic delays to complete transportation shutdowns.
