Does speed kill?
Yes, say supporters of a bill that would increase the speed limit
on the state's four-lane highways. But for most motorists, "the risk
is worth taking to get the extra speed," said Sen. Robert Tyson, R-
Parker.
He and Sen. David Jackson, R-Topeka, are backing a bill that would
increase the maximum speed on the state's four-lane, divided highways
to 75 mph.
Under the bill, the Kansas Department of Transportation still
would have the authority to set speed limits for different highways.
But the measure would most likely result in higher speeds on
interstate highways, including Interstates 70 and 35.
